Introduction & Uses
Chloroform has many uses as a reagent and as a solvent.
It is a common solvent because it is relatively unreactive, miscible with most organic liquids, and conveniently volatile.
Chloroform is also a key component in the production of acrylic “perspex” glass – where it is used to bond pieces together.
Chloroform is also used in the pharmaceutical industry and in the production of dyes and pesticides.
Chloroform can also be used as an anesthetic.
